Venue: Nubacha (Melaka, Malaysia)
Date Visited: 26th July 2013

The evening setup of Nubacha with an ambiance of jazzy music and the local cable screening on the flat screen TV with rather tasteful art pieces on the wall, somewhat fashionably modern looking chairs and simple furnishing.

Upon arrival on that wet rainy evening, the waitress greeted us and attended to our needs as we needed a baby chair (understandably they only had one). A simple printed menu with the various spread prepped by the chef, we opted for a Fresh Garden Salad, Charbroiled Pork Tenderloin and Charbroiled Pork Belly with apple sauce, an orange juice and lemon juice.

I must say the fruit juices were not those overly watered down and syrup filled, neither did it taste cordial as they were freshly squeezed and mixed.

The waitress had an attention for detail as she saw that our order was for two and asked if our children wanted anything extra. She also on her own, gave a little cup of water to my 2 year old without being asked and even checked if a refill was needed. Overall pleasant and attentive.

The fresh garden salad came with bacon bits, fresh greens, sliced cucumbers, sliced tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and was dressed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Fresh Garden Salad
As for the pork belly, it was cooked to pinkish perfection. Nestled on top of potato wedges, tender and juicy; just succulent. The sauce for the pork was just pretty normal but at least it was not a slather of flour filled corn starch as like some cafés that I've previously visited. The apple purée was not watery or chunky, not artificially sweetened to the taste of a jam and somewhat pairs nicely with the pork belly. It comes with a side of fresh greens and tomatoes and cucumber with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Charbroiled Pork Belly
The pork tenderloin fell short when it was somewhat dry although not overly tough. Wished it was cooked perfectly for a much more enjoyable meal. The sauce was the same as the pork belly but without the apple purée. Presentation and sides were similar to those of the pork belly.

Overall Gastronomical Experience: 7

Much to improve over the sides presented to us for that evening, in hope to see further improvement in the cooked meats. I may venture into their pork ribs and steaks in the future... Let's wait and see...
